trefwoorden: Irak - 8e eeuw BCE - restauratie - Ouhala Fort
The Archaeology and Heritage Department recently started renovating Ouhala Fort, the oldest fort in the emirate, which dates back to 815 BC.
Ouhala is a small village which lies on a hill in the south of Fujairah towards Kalba city. The old fort was decaying when the department decided to restore it as a part of a long-term plan to renovate old forts.
Ahmed Khalifa Al Shamsi, Director of the department, said: "It is an important fort, not only because it is the oldest with beautiful Islamic architecture, but because it was constructed on the foundations of another fort dating back to the Iron Age."
