Man discovers Roman coin hoard

A hoard of Roman coins dug up in Braithwell were probably buried by their owner almost 2,000 years ago, Doncaster Coroner's Court was told.
The first of the coins - dating from 253 AD to 274 AD - was discovered by a landowner digging out a pond. He consulted metal detecting enthusiast Peter Leech who then went on to dig up 1,331 coins and pieces of a broken earthenware pot over a period of three months towards the end of 2002.
