Medieval lime kiln leaves a mystery

Medieval lime kiln leaves a mystery
trefwoorden: Engeland - Ingleton - middeleeuwen - oven - ijzer
An early lime kiln of potentially national importance has been unearthed during an archaeological dig at Ingleton.
The Ingleborough Archaeology Group finishes its dig near the Waterfalls Walk car park this weekend.
The site of the dig, called the Broadwood Project, was chosen because the ground suggested there had been some activity on the site.
The group secured around 25,000 in grant funding to buy specialist equipment and employ professional archaeologists to help.
It was suspected that the area had been used for iron works and the investigations have backed up the theory.
Last week the kiln was uncovered, shedding new light on the use of the site and on industrial processes of the past.
