Teacher unearths artifacts on trip

A Rickards High School Spanish teacher traded Tallahassee and her language books for a sifter and an ancient world over the summer.
Erica Hughes traveled to Chocola, Guatemala to help a team of scientists and volunteers unearth 2,000-year-old obsidian and ceramic fragments that tell the story of how the ancient Maya lived. Hughes said she's always been interested in other cultures.
"Working with the people in the community and living in the little town for two weeks was an incredibly enriching experience," Hughes said.
